Hi,
I had this problem a while ago. You need to edit your
registry to stop scandisk attempting to compress old files
(i presume scandisk is freezing when it's compressing old
files?) It has been a while since I did this but if you
search the web with google you can find the solution I did.
Hope this helps

The OP appears to be addressing a problem in Windows ME. The article you referenced applies to Windows XP.

This is a newsgroup for issues relating to Windows 2000. Your query appears to be addressing a problem concerning Windows ME.

Here's what I remember about solving this issue:

Boot up to the Safe Mode.
Run scandisk (normal mode not thorough).
Run Defrag
Restart to Normal mode.

If scandisk still has problems running in Safe Mode, restart in DOS and run scandisk from there, then go through the Safe Mode steps again.

If you need help with the DOS approach, see this article:

If still no joy, post your question to the microsoft.public.windowsme.general newsgroup.
