sc.windows.com

I'm running XP professional. have noticed that when
commencing a file search in windows explorer (ie,
c:\windows\explorer.exe) that XP tries to obtain an
outgoing connection to sc.windows.com:80
(207.46.248.249:80).

what is the reason for this? Can't see that this is
necessary to do a file search on the local disk drive?
Its not another 'checking to make sure pc is microsoft
compliant sort of thing is it?

Any help would be appreciated.

Just installed Windows 2003 Enterprise Server and it also does the same
thing. Anyone got information...a search of the internet didn't reveal
much.
