My external hard drive suddenly began giving me delayed write errors. A
search of MS knowledge base finds a known issue and a hotfix.

My problem is that I have a Compaq computer with OEM Windows XP, so the
Microsoft tech support refers me to the Compaq tech support.

Compaq tech support is clueless, which I discovered after spending a couple
hours just trying to get through.

Can anyone help? This is a known bug, with an available fix that MS seems
to want you to jump through hoops to get.

THanks,
Joe

Hotfixes are available to anyone, doesn't matter if it's OEM or not.

And be sure to tell them you are experiencing the EXACT symptoms
outlined in the KB article.

It's a painless procedure.
