If you opened the file, replaced the contents, saved, and closed the file
then unless you have the option, "Always create backup copy" turned on AND
you only saved the file once after the initial save when you made the
modifications, then you can recover the content from the backup copy. If you
don't automatically create a backup copy or saved several times after you
made the major changes then unfortunately there is nothing to recover.
Now, if the document is still open you might be able to use Undo and return
to the original content. If that's the case, then what I'd do is select all
and copy the current content to another document first.
