Previously I have downloaded and saved all Service Packs as a file to disc so
that I can load them on other computers without having to download it each
time. I remember that I usually have a hard time finding that file without
going through all the auto install junk. Does anybody know where I can get XP
sp2 without using the auto install function on the windows update page? I
only want the XP sp2 file.

You really did not look. It took me ~1minute to find the following URL

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...be-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a&DisplayLang=en

Or just order the SP2 Update CD free from MS
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx

Elizabeth:

I know he didn't look "there" if he did, he would have found the Service pack executable :-)

Here's the steps to find it.

1. Go to the Windows download site -- http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/
2. Enter "windows xp sp2" into the keywords field
3. The answer and result is the first in the list entitled; "Windows XP Service Pack 2
for IT Professionals and Developers"

Like I said, less than one minutes search. Therefore I must conclude the OP did not look at
all.

BTW: I have no offspring.

| Why be so punative. He did not look there. Are you this
| way with your kids too.

Thanks for the info. And yes I am a little slow, I forgot that I had used the
network admin deployment file instead the auto update installation
previously. That's why I made this post, it saved me any further aggravation
of searching by you giving me the correct URL. That's part of what
newsgrouops are for, correct? That and giving people like you who obvoiusly
know everything something to gloat about.

The newsgroups aren't for people to do for you. They're to assist you when
you can't find a solution to a problem. People are nice enough to respond
with a solution for you, but they don't appreciate doing the legwork you
should have done. The man did you a favor and gave you some advice. Take
the advice and use it next time you have a question. By doing so, youy
learn a little and respect the time and efforts of others.

True and good point. I respect that others have done a bit of the leg work,
although so had I, but after 15 min of no success I thought I'd seek some
outside assistance. I had found finding this file before to be elusive and it
appeared that way again so I thought maybe I cut down my search time by
asking for help. Thank You for the info and the valuable lesson too.
