I have a progrm that I use to save a WIndows registry called
WinRescueXP from www.superwin.com. It has some decnt features but does
ahve a small cost associated with it. It also backs up other files
among other things.

If I were to simly save my registry through RegEdit to a file would
that pick up all the Hive files for everything related to the registry
or would something be missing or not be able to be restored?

I guess I could create a restore point myself but wanted to know if
this quick and dirty way still might work under XP.

Thanks so much in advance

I've tried regedit before and it had BIG problems when I
tried to merge it later. I don't think it was designed
for you to save the whole registry. System restore
is better.

Patty:

The registry hives comprise a large amount of data, too large really
to reliably export and save to a reg file. Trying to import the
saved file back would probably result in a disaster. Suggest making
image backups on a regular basis instead using a good imaging program.

Ghost or Drive Image = www.symantec.com

True Image = www.acronis.com

Or you can try this free registry backup program:

ERUNT http://home.t-online.de/home/lars.hederer/erunt

Thanks, I have Ghost, System Restore of course and have had Erunt but
not used it yet. Also WinRescue (I am not affiliated with this
company) does a nice job.

Thanks, Peter
