I have to perform a PC Restore. In installed Office Outlook AFTER I got my
computer. (The computer Dell w/Vista came w/Office Home & Student).

How do I?:
Save Outlook Contacts? Do I do it to an Excel file, if so, how?
and
How do I uninstall Office Outlook and then re-install after my PC Restore?
Thanks everyone.

Your pst file contains all your Outlook data - email, contacts, calendar and
tasks. save a copy of that.
How do I uninstall Office Outlook and then re-install after my PC Restore?

You don't need to uninstall if you are doing a restore. If the machine came
with Home and Student then either the restore process will put it back, or
you will have a CD to install it from.

BTW, I didn't think that Home and Student version HAD Outlook in it
.......are you SURE that you have Outlook and not Outlook EXPRESS?

And I've just seen your other post - please do not post questions more than
once....

just re-install Outlook from the CD that you were sold after the restore.

Office Home & Student came with the computer. THEN I purchased and installed
Office Outlook. That's why I've gotta uninstall, do the restore, then
reinstall. Dell tells me that unless I do this, I will loose all programs
that were installed AFTER I received the computer from the factory. (I know
that the restore will put back the Office Home & Student). And hey, I'm
sorry about the listing dupe, it was a mistake not done on purpose. I'm a
little hi-tech challenged, which is why I don't understand your answer re:
pst file and just saving it. Thanks!

Sorry, one more thing...so I still need to UnInstall just the Outlook Program
and then Re-InStall. Can you help me with that?

No you don't. the restore procedure will wipe the HDD of anything on it.
as an aside, why are you needing to restore? It's not usually the best or
quickest way of resolving any problems....

as to the Outlook data, assuming you are running XP, the pst file containing
all your Outlook emails, contacts, calendar, tasks, is usually located here:
C:\Documents and Settings\{your user name here}\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\ and will probably have the name of Outlook.pst. if
there is more than one file with the pst extension, copy them all!
(If you have Vista then I can't help with the location as I don't use it)

If you're unsure on what to do, look here:

HTH

I'm Vista (not XP). All of a sudden 2 weeks ago I can't exit Windows Mail.
If I try the window freezes. So I either close by using Task Manager or just
turning off the computer with that window still showing. I tried going to
"Repair Computer" but it wouldn't let me...told me my account was disabled.
AND in User Accounts I can't access the following links Change name of AC,
Change type of AC, Manage another AC and Turn on or off Account Control (I
currently have it off). After a couple of techs tried to take over my screen
and fix this, the final suggestion is that something is corrupt and I need to
do a restore.

Right. So do you use Windows mail AND Outlook, or just one of those? And if
so, which one?

I use Windows mail for all emailing.
I use Outlook for list of Contacts only. Not for emailing.

Then my instructions for saving your pst file remain. You will also have to
backup your Windows mail email files, and ALL your other critical data.
Don't forget Favorites, either! Once you have performed the restore, you
will have lost anything that was on the computer previously, so be VERY
thorough.
However, have you tried asking your question about Windows mail in a Windows
Mail group? It's highly possible that someone may be able to help you solve
it without restoring the computer. Be aware that OEM "helpdesks" have a
VERY bad reputation for actually being able to solve anything other than by
re-installing the operating system....

Thank you for your input. I appreciate it. Yes I have spent a lot of time
in a discussion group re: Windows Mail....with no solutions. Thanks again.

Correct. Office 2007 Home and Student Edition doesn't contain Outlook.
Office 2003 Student and Teacher Edition, however, did.

You'll loose them anyway. No need to uninstall anything. I replied to the
first time you posted this same question and pointed you at the Outlook
backup procedure. Here is it for this thread:
http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/backupandrestore.htm . Save every data
file you created since purchasing your PC to some external medium like a CD,
because you WILL lose it all doing a PC restore.

Yes you're right. Home & Student does NOT have Outlook. So, after I
received my computer (w/Home & Student) I purchased and installed Outlook all
by itself. So it's just Outlook I am concerned about.

Actually, it's likely your new PC contained a _trial_ of Office 2007 Home
and Student Edition. If you want to continue to use it, you'll have to
purchase a license.
