Good day. I want to begin saving to a CD because I realize that floppys
will soon become obsolete. Anyway, I tried to save a word file in a CD and I
got a message saying that I could not do that because I need the
administrator approval. Well. like many people out there, I am the only one
who uses this computer.

Can you tell me how to override that and save to a CD. Thank you all in
advance for your help.
Phyllis

Thank you for your reply. It is saved to my hard drive in Word. When I
attempt to save it to a CD I get the response that my administrator needs to
authorize this. Thank you.

Phyllis:

Your terminology makes it look like you didn't understand Mary's instructions.

Do you mean you've used Word to save it on your hard drive, then used
Windows Explorer or your CD-writing software to COPY it from your hard drive
to the CD?

When you say you're SAVING it to the CD, it makes me think you're using Word
to save it to the hard drive, then using Word to save it to the CD.

Word is doing you a favor by trying to prevent you from saving to any type
of removable media, especially a CD. Instead, save the file to your hard
drive. Then open your CD-mastering software (it will probably start up
automatically when you insert a blank CD) and use it to copy the file(s) to
the CD.

Thank you. Yes., you are both correct. I am saving it to my hard drive on
Word. Then I am attempting to save it on a CD. I guess I don't have
CD-mastering software. At least it didnt open up when i inserted a blank. I
guess I will have to do some research. I am able to copy CD's that I own.
So maybe I'm just not looking in the right place. Thanks. I will go back to
the drawing board.

If you have a CD burner (that is, a drive that can write as well as read
CDs), you will have *some* kind of software that came with it (unless you
bought it separately from the computer). Easy CD Creator is a popular app
that comes with a lot of CD burners. Scan your Start menu for a likely
program.

Thank you. I figured it out. I did not realize that you cannot save to a CD
from Word. And yes my computer did come with a CD burner. All is well.
Thanks.
