saving pictures from the web!

How come all the pictures I try to save from the web the are now bittmaps and not jpegs
 
I have the same problem - sometimes it goes away for a
while if you reboot your computer.
As for gifs, forget it - I just can't save them at all.
A temporary fix is to type in name for the image &
add .jpg manually - it will then save as JPG but at a very
large file size - so not much help.
