Saving on EXCEL

I "saved" an EXCEL spreadsheet and didn't recognize that
changes I didn't rcognize occured several steps befor
my "save". Now I can't "undo" the last 4 or 5 steps and
can't figure out what went wrong and I didn't back up
previous versions of the document prior to this "save".

The question is, can I recover the file as it was several
steps prior to my hitting the save button? The undo tab
on edit obviously is greyed out. Is there another way to
do this?
