Saving Files

I get 2 files when I save from Word, the normal file and a that starts with
~$. When I open the folder the second file starting with ~$ has disappeared
sometimes and sometimes it is still there. What could be causing this and how
do I stop it?

That's the "owner" or "lock" file. See "Description of how Word creates
