Saving files for upgrading

Is there a way to get Internet 5.5 or 6 without downloading directly to a
computer (downloading on one computer and saving it then loading it
on another). I have an a computer that runs Windows 98 and IE5. I want to
upgrade to IE6 so I can connect the computer to the internet using a wireless
connection. I can't load my new wireless connection software unless the
computer has IE5.5 or newer. I can't download from that computer until I
have it hooked up to the wireless. I downloaded the IE6 setup.exe file on my
other computer and put it on the a CD - when I try to install it on the other
computer I get the first setup screen to accept the agreement but then once
it starts the setup process I get a message telling me the computer needs to
connect to the internet to download the remaining files.

Any help of ideas - thanks

Go to one of these sites to get the full-install in one file:
http://helpdesk.uvic.ca/software/downloads/windows/msiexpl.html
http://browsers.evolt.org/?ie/32bit/
http://public.planetmirror.com/pub/microsoft/ie/

What you've used is just the small installer "stub".

Burn the single file to a CD. When running the .exe file - it's a
self-extracting .exe - extract all the files into a single folder on the
target computer, then find the ie6setup.exe or ie55setup.exe file (depending
on the version) and run that to begin installation.

When installing IE, it's best to first do a power-off reboot, then disable
any anti-virus program you may have running, then do a CTRL+ALT+DEL and End
Task on everything on the list except (Windows) Explorer and Systray. This
method will help prevent any program you may have running in the background,
and the anti-virus software, from interfering with the install of IE. Some
AV software just plain messes up an install of IE, and other programs may be
using a file that IE needs to update/replace/remove.
