Saving files error

I have certain Word files that even though I don't make any changes I am
asked do you save the file. Opening and closing some files I am prompted to
save the file.
Why is this happening? This happens with several Excel files as well.

Thanks for your help that did work.
I unchecked the Smart Tags feature for Excel and that didn't work. I
couldn't locate an article for Excel. Do you have any idea how to fix this in
Excel?
