Hi all ,

I am having a strange prob in excel

whenever i save an excel file, it asks for extension (*.xls)
there is something wrong with the settings this i know

like when u save a new book on desktop it will save it as vikram.xl
instead of vikram

what is the way out
i dont want this file extension along with the nam

You can either hide the extensions so they don't show up, or, you can save
the file using "vikram", including the quotes. However, Windows won't know
this is an Excel file, so you won't be able to open it directly from
Explorer.

I'd use the extension and I'd never turn off the display of the extension.

There's lots of viruses/worms that are transferred as a file that looks
innocuous.

The attachment file names look like: PicturesOfKournikova.jpg
but in fact, it's: PicturesOfKournikova.jpg.vbs

Hiding those extensions is not always a good idea.

And if you really want a file on your desktop without the .xls extension, you
could save the workbook to a nice folder. Put a shortcut to the file on your
desktop and call it anything you want.

I find that it's safer this way, too. Sometimes, I can clean things up by
mistake. And my real workbook is safe--all I have to do is to recreate the
shortcut.
