Is there a way to save entire folders of email messages to a Word Document.
I have to send my paltop out for repair and I want to clean it up before I
send it out.
I have already backed-up everything ito an external hard drive, but just in
case, I wanted to save the messages.

Well if you've "backed everything up" then that would include your email.
Converting everything to a Word document would not only be slow and time
consuming, but totally impractical anyway.
Just to be sure you HAVE backed it up, see here: (scroll down the page to
see the Windows Mail section)

In addition to what Gordon indicated, you can select all the messages in a
folder and then go to Message | Combine and decode and that will give you
one big text file that you can open in Word. You might be better off saving
the messages themselves as individual eml files as WinMail stores them.
