Saving duplicate of sent email

C

Charles Kenyon

If possible, I would like to save a duplicate of sent and forwarded reply
email in the folder where the original message is found as well as in the
Sent Mail folder. I am using Outlook 2003 (without Exchange).

If it matters, I am not using Word to edit email messages and all messages
(sent or received) are treated as plain text.

I am aware of the option to save a copy of the sent reply in the folder
(other than the InBox) but that saves the only copy in that folder, then.
I've tried constructing a rule but haven't been able to figure out how. Is
it possible (necessary?) to do it using vba? I have worked with vba in Word
but not Outlook.

TIA

Hello, Mr. Kenyon;

Tools> Rules and Alerts> New Rule> Start from a blank rule> Check messages
after sending> Next> Next> Yes> Move a copy to the specified folder> (specify
the folder)> OK> Next> Next> Specify a name for this rule> Finish.

No VBA needed.

IanRoy.

Not quite, but it got me thinking. What you suggest doesn't work because I
want a copy saved in the folder with the original as well as in the Sent
Items folder. I have about 60 folders that my mail goes into by rules. Your
suggestion requires a specific folder.

However, I may have gotten closer to what I want by...
unchecking the advanced option to save a copy of sent messages in the Sent
Items folder.
Then I created a rule that saves a copy of all sent items there (and doesn't
stop processing other rules).
I checked the advanced option to save a copy of replies in the original
folder and checked the option to save forwarded messages.

That doesn't work with replies (the reply isn't saved in the folder even
with the option checked unless the option for saving in Sent Items is also
checked. When I check that, it works. However, that solution saves two
copies of messages that are not replies in Sent Items, one marked as read,
the other marked as unread!

Side question, how do I get the copy saved by my rule marked as read. (No
option for doing this appears in the checklist.)

Hello M. Kenyon;

Oops! I didn't think it through well enough. I am doing something similar,
only based on e-mail addresses. I have a folder and a purpose for each one
(not 60 of them!). I didn't find a way to mark them as read. I'm just putting
up with it, so far.

Regards,
IanRoy
