Saving Cell Format

I am creating a database in excel to combine with another database in another
program. To make these databases match, I need to format a column as a "text
field" though the information in the column is numbers. I am able to
highlight and change the column to text, but when I save the excel sheet as a
database, close and reopen the document, it automatically reverts to
"numerical field" format. How can I save the excel sheet as a Database file
and keep the column formatted as "numerical fields?"

How are you saving the data? Are you saving it as a .csv file?

If you are, then before you reopen the file, change the extension to .txt. Then
when you reopen the file in excel, you'll see the text to columns wizard and
you'll be able to specify Text for that field.

..csv files are plain text and don't save formatting.
