Saving attachments ?

Hi,

Apparently Outlook considers MDB to be a "dangerous" file and will not
allow me to open it. The only suggestion in the online help is to ask the
sender to resend the attachment in .zip format. This is totally
unacceptable. Before returning this absolutely ridiculous application to the
store, I want to double check with the participants in this newsgroup to
verify that there is no way to save "dangerous" (level1) attachments to
one's hard disk from Outlook.

....which seems to solve the problem. How utterly ridiculous to require a 3rd
party helper application to open an attachment. It's probably only a matter
of time until Microsoft requires a third party helper application just to
logon to Windows (logging on to windows is a dangerous operation since there
might be a virus hiding in the Startup group which could conceivably execute
during the logon sequence).

I'm having the exact same problem and it amazes me how many different peopel
are having this issue and Microst has not responded to anyone.

Office 2000 with SP3/Windows XP SP1 - nobody can save attachments from
Outlook unless the are LOCAL ADMINS.......

frustrating, to say the least.

That's a completely different issue.

If you are having issues seeing attachment within the message (Outlook has
blocked access, etc), then you need to follow the steps here:

For your problem...what happens when they try to save attachments?

Microsoft doesn't monitor these newsgroups. They are for peer-to-peer
support.

Office 2000 with SP3/Windows XP SP1 - nobody can save attachments from

frustrating, to say the least.

It gets worse. In Outlook 2003, you can't save certain types of
attachments even if you ARE an admin of the computer/domain. The only
options are to modify certain registry settings (always risky) or to use the
add-in program that I mentioned in my prior post.

the error i get is "can't create file "filename" right click the folder you
want to create the file in and click properties in the shortcut menu to
check your permissions for the folder"
if i give my users ADMIN rights, they are fine... they can open attachmetns.
This happens to all attachmetns and it ALL over the newsgroups. I'm not the
only perosn experiecing this issue.

The registry key is quite safe and is supported by Microsoft.

I have a similiar issue, but a little different. I can open the attachment,
but NOT from the email msg itself, I have to save it first. What happens is
that if I double click on the attachment (in my case, its a doc) it says it
is unsafe and that I have to open it after i save it to my pc instead of
opening from the outlook email msg itself, anyone with the same issue?
