Saving a file

We just upgraded to Office 2003. I save my Excel files at least every minute. Now, every time I save, I'm prompted with "Another user may have blah blah blah...do you want to 1) make new file or 2) overwrite changes. I want to overwrite changes, but now I have to click the appropriate button and then hit OK with my mouse every time, not very efficient

I have looked in help, on-line, everywhere, and it doesn't appear that anyone but the people in our office have this problem. Our IT person told me he can't fix it today (everyone is yelling at him because they lost their office toolbars so he's dealing with that). I was hoping someone out there had this problem and can show me something I'm not seeing. Thanks!

Lisa,

With regard to the toolbar, the following link might be helpful:

person might find this helpful.

Regarding your file saving, does another user have the spreadsheet opened?

Hope this helps.

Kevin

Thanks! I'm positive no one else has opened it. I don't have to change anything, if I open a file and then hit save immediately, the box still pops up. I wonder if it has something to do with making other users only be able to open the file as read only if the file is already open? That's the way it was before the upgrade. I haven't come across an option like that that I recognize. If that IS the fix, I'm certain our IT guy will have to fix it, it will be a disaster if multiple users can randomly save a file while others are in it, especially for those "end of the day only" savers

Also, I wonder if the previous version allowed for fast saves in Excel, but Office 2003 only allows it in Word and PPoint

I have to think that it's something in my settings, otherwise other users would have commented on it. I can't imagine that I would be the only user that thinks it's a problem

I fixed my problem. I created a Macro that goes through the commands and attached it to a custom button on my toolbar. Thanks for your help! (And thanks for the office toolbar help too...)

Lisa,

I am not a network person, so I am completely out of my depth here. I would
intuitively think that the two version ought to be the same, and you should
*not* be getting your message. It doesn't make sense if you are the only
person who has the file open. But again, my network knowledge is poor at
best. So I will request that others jump in and assist.

Best regards,
Kevin
