Saved Search in Advanced Find

Guest

After receiving the most recent Microsoft Office automatic update, I can no
longer open my saved searches when using Advanced Find for Microsoft Outlook.
More specifically, when in Advanced Find, the OPEN item is dimmed-out on the
FILE menu.

Anyone else having this same issue?

Unfortunatly, the update is what caused your inability.

What does the update do?
The update removes the ability to save these searches as well as removing
the ability to open these searches.

See the following link for information:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms07-003.mspx?pubDate=2007-01-09
Does this update contain any changes to functionality?
Yes. After the update for Outlook 2000, Outlook 2002, or Outlook 2003 is
installed, users will not be able to save these searches as well as the
ability to open these Searches. For more information, see Cannot open or
save Office Saved Searches files in Outlook (KB925542).

Looks like the KB article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925542 explains how to use a registry entry to re-enable the ability to save searches as .oss files.

I followed KB 925542 to re-enable saving searches, but the Save As option is
still grayed out in Advanced Find. I am using Office 2007 Pro, upgraded from
Office 2003 Pro.

Does anyone know how to re-enable this option for Outlook 2007?

The KB article applies only to Outlook 2003. Saved search .oss files are not supported in Outlook 2007. Use search folders instead.

Thank you for the explanation. I actually want to save my Search Folders to
OSS files for backup purposes. Is there anyway to backup a Search Folder in
Outlook 2007?

The search folder settings are backed up when your mailbox or .pst file is backed up.
