Saved over old document- revert to backup?

A

Allison

I was happily updating my resume for today, 081024, by making a few changes
from my 080902 version. When I saved the file, though, I saved over the
080902 instead of creating a new date. How long is my old document held in
cache? Can I get it back somehow, and if so, what steps do I follow?

There is no "cache." If you saved over the old file, it's gone unless you
have "Automatically create backup copy" enabled, in which case the previous
version will be found as "Backup of 080902.wbk."

If you "save as" an existing filename the wbk backup file is not created.
The backup is created only when you 'save' changes to the same file.
This file is gone, though file recovery software *may* be able to recover it
if the disc space the original occupied has not been over-written.

There's no indication that Allison used Save As, though. It sounds as if she
opened the old document, edited it, and hit Save instead of choosing Save
As.
