Save Pictures As......

D

Dan

I am having trouble saving an image(graphic, photo,
etc.), off the internet. When I right-click an image, and
click save photo as...,the Save Picture box appears. When
I use the assigned name and click the save button, the
image is saved, but nothing appears in the box. Also if I
rename the image it is saved as a file and not a jpeg.
When I open the destination folder the images are there,
however the image saved in a file format cannot be
opened. Any help would be apprieciated Thanks Dan

When you click "Save" on the "Save
Picture" window...the window will
close. Your saved image file will be
in your "My Documents / My Pictures"
folder if you use the default.

What is the file format of the saved
images? When you rename the files
do you add .jpg to the new name?

Example: If you have..."Monday.jpg"
and you...right click /rename...you
must keep the extension, "Tuesday.jpg"

Try renaming and adding the extension
.jpg< to the files and see if they will open.

.Thanks for your response. When I click "save" in
the "save picture" window, the image is placed in "My
Documents/My Pictures" folder. However, the next time I
save an image, the "save picture" window is blank, it
used to contain a list, or icons, of the images. I also
added the .jpg extension to my renamed image, but it
still saves as a "File" type of file under properties.
Thanks again. Dan

You may need to do some editing in your
registry...carefully read the following article
first before proceeding:

Information About Editing the Registry
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=256986#Topic2

====================================
".jpg extension may be incorrect in registry"

Go to...Start / Run...

Type in "regedit" (without the quotes)...OK.

In your registry editor...drill down to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\image/jpeg

What is entered at "Extension"? (should be: .jpg)
(don't change anything...just observe)

Also you might check:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\image/pjpeg

What is entered at "Extension"? (should be: .jpg)

If the *Extensions* are incorrect, changing them to .jpg
should solve your problem.

To make the change...

Left click "Extension" to select it.

With "Extension" selected...go to...Edit / Modify...

Replace the text in the "Value data" field with
".jpg" (without the quotes)...OK.

Close the registry editor....File / Exit.

Thanks again for your response. I ran regedit, when I
got to image/jpeg, and image/pjpeg, the value set on
image/jpeg was .jpeg , I replaced it with .jpg and that
seemed to solve my problems. Thanks alot for all your
help. Dan

I am having a similar problem- Of course you should be
able to add the file extension to these "files" by hitting
F2, and renaming it, adding the .jpg or .bmp extension and
that will open the file corectly. This however, is a
hassle. The reason nothing appears in the box is that the
save as file type is .jpeg or .bmp but the files you have
saved lack the extension. I just started having this
problem and I am only starting to try to solve it.
