Hi,
Environment : XPe-SP2 operating system IE 6.0
On selecting save password in autocomplete option in Internet
Explorer-->Tools-->Internet options-->Contents Tab; the user doesnot have to
type user name and password in the logon window. But this in not true in my
case.I have tried all that i could. I even followed the methods given at:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q306895
but none of the methods worked.

Please let me know if is there someother method or setting where i can find
my quest answered.

Hi Slobodan,

Thanks for the useful information. But this too did not work.
Instead after adding the mentioned registries and flushing EWF; BSOD appeared.
Though after reboot image is working fine but IE shows up the same problem.
:(

Thanks,
Maria

Maria,

Unlikely those registry entries could cause a BSOD, especially considering the fact that they are under HKEY_CURRENT_USER.

Does the BSOD appear if you do ewfmgr -commt without the registry changes?
What BSOD you saw? What information was on the blue screen?
What version of EWF you have in your configuration?
Have you aplied latest [all] EWF QFEs available?

Hi KM,

I am trying all these changes on to an XPe-SP2 image(with all latest EWF
QFE's installed)

But on trying the same procedure again on fresh flashed image BSOD doesnot
appear.IE doesnot work save password on autocomplete.
May be i am wrong about the observation and inference i concluded to about
getting BSOD.

As mentioned in previous mail- i got BSOD on doing the following steps:
1> Disabled EWF(commit)
2> Made all changes in the registry.
3> Checked for IE whether it works for "Autocomplete and Save passwords".
4> Got to know it did not worked.
Then i just felt that it may require a reboot to commit changes,so rstarted
the m/c.
5> After machine booted , i checked for the IE functionality. But that too
didnot work.
6> So just to avoid any other permanent changes to the image,i enabled the
EWF;the m/c restarted and gave a BSOD.

7> Now i switched off the m/c and restarted it. It loaded OS without any
issues this time , with all registry keys saved.

Lastly BSOD does not appear if i disable EWF without making any changes to
registry.

Thanks,
Maria

I agree with Konstantin and I have one question for you.
I am trying all these changes on to an XPe-SP2 image(with all latest EWF
QFE's installed)

What do you meant by this.
SP2 uses it's own EWF so your QFE's should not have any effect.

Have you made a clean project on XPe SP2 or you upgraded some of your existing projects made on SP1?

Slobodan

KM,

BSOD information on making changes as suggested earlier for "Auto Complete"
is as follows:

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
If this is the first time........
...

Technical Information:
***STOP:0x00000050 (0xc666F945,0x00000000,0xc666F945,0x00000000)
But on restarting the m/c, it boots up properly. With changed registries
intact.
But the auto complete does not save password as does not autocomplete
information.

Also, if i do:
- disable EWF,
- make some [any] changes in registry (not IE related),
- reboot
- enable EWF
- reboot

I do not see the BSOD.

EWF seems to be working fine.

Please let me know what else i need to do to resolve this problem.

Maria

Maria,

I still think you are having issues with EWF.
But I don't think I have much of the clue why you saw the BSOD with SP2 image.

You can read this thread to see different ideas on similar problem on SP1: http://www.mcse.ms/printthread.php?threadid=961840

Can you check the EWF binaries version in your image and compare it to the SP1's EWF QFE (see the thread for QFE numbers) and to
SP2's? Just to make sure you are using proper binaries.

Also, if you have some time, attach to the target machince with KD (Kernel Debugger) to see what system component causes the BSOD.

Btw, when you did the test I outlined earlier what registry value(s) you changed?

KM
BSOD information on making changes as suggested earlier for "Auto Complete"

Hi Maria,

SP2 include its own EWF component that AFAIK is newer that prior SP1 QFE components.

Unfortunately I can't tell what is the problem based on description that you gave us.

If you do.
1. Change registry.
2. Commit working EWF.
3. Reboot.

You should either always have BSOD. Or you will never have BSOD.
During the boot RAM EWF will protect your registry, so it should not be able to repair itself and store changes back to disk.

Slobodan
