Save only Changes....Not complete workbook!

Is there a way to create a code that will only save the changes to th
xls file, rather than the whole workbook.

The reason I ask this is that I have a very large workbook (6mb +) an
on the computers a work (Where the spreadsheet is intended) are quit
slow. So if it only saves the changes that have occured since the las
save, this hopefully would speed up the save process!

I hope this can be done!

I have thought about splitting the spreadsheet into smaller segment
that are linked, but I would prefer to avoid this!

also I would assume Excel does just this internally
