save normal.dot?

This has been driving me crazy lately. All too many
occasoins when I close a document or exit the program I am
asked if I want to save the normal.dot becasue word "has
changed it automoticallyh?) why is this happening..

I am using Word xp on an xp home computer.

There are lots of reasons for this. The most obvious being that the
normal.dot *has* changed, but the actions of third party add-ins are the
usual cause of the problem, especially the Works add-in and the Norton AV
Office plug-in. Uninstall the former if present and disable the latter from
NAV.
