Save Changes Prompt at close

With Excel 2003 I am encountering the following:
If I open an existing workbook directly by clicking on the file and make
changes to that workbook, the program does not prompt me to save changes when
I close the document.
If I first open Excel, and then browse to find the file I want to open, the
program DOES prompt me to save changes when I close the file??
Any idea why this is happening?

Thanks - I think I may have fixed it (tho I still am not sure how!). I
started to get more suspicous when a MACRO I created for a report was only
showing up when I opened an Excel file through the browser as well - just
like the not prompting to Save at Close issue I saw when opening directly
from an icon; if I opened a file from an icon the MACRO was not showing -
but, if I opened thorugh a browse, then the MACRO DID appear.

Now, like I say, I am not sure what fixed it. But, it had something to do
with saving my changes regarding the PERSONAL macro workbook. I wish I knew
ecactly what I did, but I don't. All I know for sure is I can now open the
Excel files using any method and the MACROS I create and save to the PERSONAL
workbook are available, and I get prompted to save my changes.
