SATA drive not being recognized

I have Windows XP Pro, 1 IDE HD, and 1 SATA drive. After Reinstalling
Windows XP Pro , my SATA drive is not being recognized in Windows or in the
BIOS. The SATA HD is my secondary drive and not the boot drive. I downloaded
what I think is the proper software from Intel's web site for the drive but
still not being recognized. Is there a procedure in order to get my drive to
be recognized.

Art, check your Bios settings. Disconnect the SATA Drive and bootup.
Shutdown and reconnect.

Here's additional info. The SATA drive was not messed with at all during the
reinstallation of Windows. It still has all the data that it had prior to
reinstall. does this matter? Also, I checked the BIOS settings and all looks
good as it should since I didn't change anything prior or after the new
install of Windows. I also disconnected the drive booted up and reconnected
and still is not recognized.

1 more thing. In my device manager it shows under "other devices" a yellow
question mark next to Ethernet Controller,PCI Simple Communications
Controller and Raid Controller.

Art, it would help if I knew the Make and Model of the Motherboard. But,
when a yellow mark shows up next to a device
in Device Manager it means the drivers have not been installed. Does the
SATA Drive connect to the Motherboard or do
you have an PCI SATA Card that sits in one of your PCI slots. Either way
it looks like the SATA Driver has not be installed. You should have them
available on a floppy or CD that came with the drive. If that's not the case
you can go to
the manufacturer of the drives website and get one.

XP doesn't know how to recognize SATA controllers. Well, on very few
occasions some MB provide a controller that XP knows, but that happens
only seldom and far between.

You need to find the driver CD for your MB, and install the correct XP
drivers for your SATA controller. After that, and a reboot, XP
*should* recognize and be able to use your SATA drive.

Did you reinstall the SATA drivers? Windows can't recognize SATA drives
without them.
