sata disk connectivity

I know that with ide drives you can have a maximum of 4 to a pc which are
installed on sep controllers with 2 drives on each cable.
Whats the config with sata do you only ever have 1 disk per cable and how
many controllers and connectors on standard motherboard.

One HD per SATA cable, period. There is no standard for the number of
SATA connectors on a MB; RTFM.

Only MB I've worked with that had SATA plugs accomodated for four of them...
