No, you'd need a PCI SATA controller card.
If your system only supports ATA33 and you'd need a PCI
controller card to reap performance benefit of new drives, it
might be a good option. If you plan to replace system soon with
one having native SATA support that may be another good reason to
get an SATA drive, but if your system already supports ATA66 or
higher you might as well just get an ATA100/ATA133 drive instead
of SATA.
A 2001 P3's onboard IDE controller will certainly be a PATA IDE
controller. To add the capability to an older system, it's just a
matter of buying and installing a SATA controller card.
