SATA Card?

Is there such a thing as a SATA card which can convert IDE to SATA? I
have a PC with an IDE drive and would like to convert it to SATA and
add another internal SATA drive. Also, if I have an external SATA
connection, I'd like to have a backup drive connected to it. Is all of
this doable? Thanks.........

Sure..but why?? the IDE drive is not going to run any faster.....hell 99% of
SATA drives dont reach their potential.
If you are going to buy a SATA addin card you might as well buy a couple of
SATA drives to go with it at least that way you will be marginally faster
than IDE.As for external ..look for an external drive case that has a E-SATA
connector and comes with a cable that connects from the SATA addin card to a
vacant slot on the back of your case.

Guess I should have said that I want to change my current IDE drive to
a SATA drive - then add another internal SATA drive (for my data). As
for performance, I am under the impression that SATA is MUCH faster
than IDE. I think you're saying that isn't true. As for the external
drive, I now have an external USB drive that I use for my backups. My
thought is to get an eSATA drive to replace the USB drive, as you said,
and connect it to the SATA addin card. BTW, where would I find ratings
and suppliers of the addin card? Thanks.........

Remove your current drive and add a SATA drive to replace it, or just
connect that IDE drive to a SATA controller?

If the second item, putting an IDE drive through a converter to a SATA
controller will NOT improve performance at all, so why way bother?

Nope... SATA is marginally faster, but not enough to switch.

Be careful... SATA and eSATA are slightly different things. A SATA card
won't necessarily get you an eSATA port.

Again, what's wrong with the USB connection? My 500gig backup drive is
connected using USB2 and moves data pretty fast. An eSATA connection would
be faster, for sure, but is it worth the cost of the new hardware?

SATA is faster than IDE... when using SATA drives, converting a PATA to SATA
with an adapter will gain you absolutely zilch in performance.

Do a search on newegg.com for SATA addin cards or search by some of the
brand names I send you.
Google is also a good place to search.
If your really set on this then buy an add on card that has an external sata
connector and if you have PCI-E buy one that fits that.
But if you are doing it for speed.....forget it
