Sasser virus

I have been unlucky enough to have caught the Sasser virus
on a new ADSL connection, after being on a cable modem
connection which, I have been told is a good guard against
Sasser-type viruses.

As I understand is common, my PC kept shutting down at
random and re-booting, suggesting that an error had
occured with 'lsass.exe'. There was a 60 second countdown.

However, on the last occaision, the PC failed to re-boot.
Windows does load, but I am faced with a blank blue
screen, (the mouse cursor is present and does move) where
usually my login password box would appear. However, it
does not appear, even after the system has been on and
idle for an hour.

I am on Windows 200 Professional. What would be the casue
of the problem.

Is there any way I can gain even basic access to the PC to
get my files and documents off?

Many thanks,

Steven, London
