Safemode failure

I'm posting again to make my problem a little clearer. While trying to get rid of Downloader.trojan I set windows to safe mode. All that happens when I boot is that the screen turns black. I don't get a prompt or an error message or a request for a password. It's just black. I tried the F8 key to safemode, but it didn't work. So i used System Configuration Utility and now I can't get back into Windows to change it to boot normally. It's my husband's computer and now he can't access it. We don't have a boot disk. We do have the System Recovery disk. Please, someone, tell me that I don't have to reinstall Windows XP to get back in. Isn't there some way to get the program to boot???

It sounds like you are going to have to use the recovery disk. This will
restore the computer to the condition it was when received, loosing anything
you have added or changed since you got the computer. I suggest you contact
the vendor/maker of the computer before you do anything else.
