safe mode

I am trying to get my computer to start in safe mode, but
when I press F8 it just gives me an option as to which
device I want to boot from, CD, Hardrive, or floppy. Is
there a way to do it from a floppy, or from Dos? Windows
XP Home edition.

Don't keep the F8 key pressed continuously - dab at it.
