Hello,

Can anyone advise me on this problem please? It's got me baffled ...

I can't boot my PC into Safe Mode - it looks as thought it's doing as
asked, gets past the 'Admin' and 'User' menu OK and then immediately reboots
itself. Any further attempt to get into Safe Mode brings me back into the
same 'false acceptance' loop. The machine is practically new - Ad-Aware,
AVG7, Spybot and Hijack This have all been used and have found no problem,
and running msconfig.exe. shows nothing apparently untoward in the Startup
section.

The machine will also allow Internet Explorer to run (after a fashion) -
but ignores clickable links inside specific webpages (for instance, the
'search' buttons in Google.co.uk and clickable links inside most of the BGT
Yahoo homepage) so that those specific pages can't be navigated. IE can be
cajoled into 'normal' behaviour by selecting particular webpages as long as
the website address is typed into the address box.

Any advice (at all) would help - MTIA.

Hi Brian,

Being able to boot normally and not to Safe Mode is not only odd, it's
backass halfward. Have you attempted to log on as the Admin for Safe Mode?

Trying to log on either as User or Admin from Safe Mode produces the
same result - i.e. rebooting, see original message - and then I'm round the
loop again. I have no idea why.

Another poster recently had this problem.

He did the following to avoid the reboot loop when trying to boot into Safe
Mode...
[[I'm able to access Safe Mode, but only if I uncheck "Users must enter a
user name and password to use this computer" in "Control Userpassword2" and
then restart to Safe Mode.]]

Hi,

This problem turned out to be related to faulty Internet Explorer and
other (OE) settings. BT Yahoo (British ISP) finally supplied a workable
solution.

Regards,

Philip
