Ruuning Domain Conroller in Virtual Environment

Hi,

Can some one pls help me to find answer for runnning/recovering windows DC
in Virtual Environemnt(Like vmware or microsoft virtual Server) ?
1). How safe it is to run DC in Virtual Environment ?
2). Incase of recovery of DC (Active Directory), what precaution need to
take if you restore DC from Virtual Environemnt (not doing file level backup
but doing a disk level backup which backup entire dirve as one file) as from
"USN Rollback" point ? (See Microsodft Articale KB 885875 & 888794 for more
on USN Rollback & running AD in Virtual Environment ).
Because of USN roll back, if I restore dsk for DC, it is to safe if
1). After restoring disk, in first boot, go to active directory restore mode
& restore mode & restore system state (Assuming I have system state backup on
same disk) so that it can reset USN & Invocation ID for AD database.

Pls share ur expertise/experience. you can call me on 402-494 7744 for more
discussion.

Virtual hard drive backups are a major NO NO for DCs unless you have but one
single DC in the entire forest. Domain Controllers are components of a
distributed environment, you can't wheel them backwards willy nilly without
blowing the distributed fabric.
