When installing to upgrade from XP, I get:

Runtime Error!

Program: C\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\setup.exe

Then the program exits setup.

I would not upgrade your XP. You cannot easily roll back. You should
install to a free partition or hard drive.

You do not give enough information about the computer or the version of
Vista you are installing, x86 or x64.

Go to custom install not the upgrade button, then select the xp partition to
upgrade, or another partition to dual boot. It should get throught that error
that way.

Sounds like you have something running in the background interfering with
setup.exe. Perhaps perform a clean boot using msconfig first, then try the
upgrade. Remember to uninstall any antivirus/firewall/disk utility software
before upgrading as well.
