This is the PowerPoint NewsGroup, but I can think of a few things you might
look at doing:
1. NEVER open a document from a floppy. Always copy it to your hard drive
first, then open it.
2. You need to clean out your "temp" files. When you open an Office product
(like Word) your computer creates a temporary file. When you close Word
normally, that file gets deleted. When Word locks up, this file remains.
When you get a bunch of these "lingering" temp files, you are just asking
for more lockups. And the cycle continues. The method to remove can vary
between Windows Operating Systems, but try this:
a. Close out all programs and reboot your computer
b. Double-click the "My Computer" icon on your desktop
c. Right-click on the "C" drive (might say Local Drive) and select
"Properties"
d. If you see a button called "Disk Cleanup", click it. It might
take a minute or two to determine the files available for deletion.
e. When a list of available files for deletion shows up, check each
of the associated boxes (like, Recycle Bin, Temporary Files, Temporary
Internet Files, etc.)
If you run into more problems, things like computer age, hard drive space,
video memory/drivers, etc., will impact computer performance. Be sure to
check out the Word NewsGroup. I have a link to their FAQ page below in my
signature.
