Runtime Error / Reinstall XP

Whenever I open a picture file I receive a notice that a
Runtime error (no number) has occurred and the program is
closing. I've tried everything short of reinstalling XP.
How difficult is the reinstall. I can't seem to find info
on the subject.

When you say you've "tried everything" does that mean you 1)scanned with
a current antivirus using updated definitions; 2)removed spyware with
tools like Spybot Search & Destroy and/or Ad-aware; 3)stopped
unnecessary programs from running at start-up; 4)deleted Temporary and
Temporary Internet Files? Something is running in the background and
crashing. You need to find out what that is. If you'd rather reinstall
XP, stick your cd in the drive, restart your machine, and do a clean
install.
