Running Virus Scan on Symantec's web site

I am running Windows XP with Internet Explorer 6.0 with
SP1 on an HP Pavillion a410e. I want to run the virus
scan from Symantec's web site at

http://security.norton.com

I then get an error message that says: Unable to run
Virus Detection

In order to run Virus Detection you must be using
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher with ActiveX
and Scripting enabled.

I click on the help link and it tells how to do this.
Yet, when I check, it is all enabled. I called HP and
they had me do a system recovery (I had already done a
system restore). This did not help and HP referred me to
Symmantec. Symantec had me to download a new scripting
host which did not help either. They then referred me to
you as they said I had a defective or missing file in
Internet Explorer that prevented me from running
Symantec's on-line virus detection program. I checked
the System Information and under Internet Settings, under
Internet Explorer, under File Versions, the following
files were listed as missing: iecont.dll and iecontlc.dll

What else can I do to get this program to work? Thank
you for your help in this matter.

For what its worth, I get exactly the same problem until I accept the
download of the active x control. Are you being prompted to allow an
installation from Symantec Corporation?

Do NOT send me an email. I will NOT see it (thank the spammers and viruses)

I am not being prompted to allow an installation from
Symantec Corporation except for virus definitions and
virus detection, not for active x control. I do accept
those downloads. Then, I only get the error message
described below. Should I download active x control? I
thought I already had it as it is marked enabled. If I
need to download it, how do I do that? Thanks

The 'virus definitions and virus detection' are active x controls; it sounds
like the download is being interfered with; what other programmes do you
have running?

I do not have any other programs running I know of. How
do I check?

Thanks
