Running totals not what I need?

In a prior post I was given links to information about running totals. I have
spent a couple days working with this and I'm not having any success. Perhaps
I am going about things the wrong way. The end result report I am trying to
make. First line, 4 items A, B, C, D, all with a quanity of 10. Second line a
sale of 2 each items A and B. Third line new subtotal Item A quanity 8, Item
B quanity 8, Item C quanity 10 and Item D quanity 10. Fourth would be
another sale and fifth a new subtotal etc. I only seem to be able to get
running sum to work for a single item not multiple. Any suggestions for a
different approach would be appreciated. Thank-you

I did not understand your post. Please give a sample of data and then what
you expect the results to be like --
Data--
A 23 31
A 5 9
B 4 5

Results--
A 28 40
B 4 5

What does your data look like that will be used in building the report?

Query for current items in stock has two fields, items and amounts, grouped
by items and sum for amounts. Query for sales has two fields, items and
amount sold. I am thinking if there are four different items, there needs to
be an amount sold for each. One item sale, would need three other zero sale
records?

I guess I was not clear as I asked that you show a sample of your data that
would be used in the report. Like --
Item Sold Stock
A 5 6
B 3 4
A 1 5
C 9 4

Or however your data is stored.
