Running Report Without Printer Installed?

Hi,

I developed a database some time ago, that's running on Access 2000.
Users of the system do not need to print reports, and the IT Support Team
have removed the printer from their printer list.

This means that no printer is now installed on the machine. 0 How can I get
Microsoft Access to still display the reports?

Thank you

They do not need a physical printer, but they must have at least one printer
*driver* installed and set as the default. Just install a basic driver or
perhaps a PDF creator (which can be useful for other things).

Thank's for that.

I'd already spoken to the IT team to get a virtual printer such as a pdf
creator or xps writer installed on this suite of machines.

Just out of interest, why did Microsoft build that in? - Does Access look at
the properties of the printer?

Are you old enough to have used the old DOS based versions of WordPerfect?
They had a view for editing and a Print Preview that was a graphical
representation of "this is what your document will look like when you print
it".

That is exactly what the preview view of an Access report is. It is telling
you what your report would look like if you would print it and it can only
do that if it knows some things about the printer driver that would be used.

When you design a form it is fairly WYSIWYG. When you design a report you
are just building a structure model. What it will hypothetically look like
when printed is not stored anywhere in your MDB file. The printer driver is
required to fill in the missing information.
