Running Processes in IE 6 sp1

Hi,This is actually a two part question - one about processes and the other
about managing add-ons. #1 - Running processes or just "processes" - I am
concerned about the running processes or just the "processes" that are stored
on my system. I use the Ad-Aware everyday to rid my system of the cookies
and extra things that shouldn't be there and of course, it lists the
currently running processes as well. I have like 26 which is outrageous and
I am not even sure where they all came from. I have 6 - svchost.exe and a
few ieexplore.exe ? What do these processes actually do, what are they for
and do I need all of the ones I have. It seems to me that a couple of them
are actually slowing my system down, especially upon booting up. How can I
delete ones that I do not need and how can I tell which ones I need and don't
need. ????

#2 - Managing Add-ons - Is there any universal list of the add-ons that
"should" be on a computer system? How can I tell which add-ons are good for
my computer and which ones could be a threat? Should I delete all of them or
do I need some of them or what. As explained in another forum, I have this
one add-on that I cannot gather any info whatsoever on, I cannot find it in
my registry nor can I research this number and come up with any answers that
way. It is listed exactly like this and I currently have it disabled but
want to delete it if possible and don't know how???

Actually, there are 2 add-ons that I have disabled because I don't know how
to delete them and really don't know what they are, they have no info listed
with them as most add-ons dislay (like the company name, the file locations,
etc.) These two have no info with them at all.

1. {CD67F980-D8E9-11D2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} no info listed w/it except that
it is disabled and is a browser extension.

The second one is:

2. Research - nothing listed along w/it, just that it is disabled and it a
browser extension.

I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO GET MY ADD-ONS AND MY PROCESSES UNDER CONTROL HERE
BECAUSE I THINK THEY MAY BE WHAT IS CAUSING SOME PROBLEMS W/MY SYSTEM BUT
THEN AGAIN, THEY MAY NOT BE. I WAS TOLD THAT I HAVE A TROJAN BUT CANNOT FIND
IT W/ANY ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE THAT I USE. NONE OF IT PICKS ANYTHING UP
WHATSOEVER.

Thanks for any info that I can get regading managing add-ons and processes
on a computer system :)

LOL to all here :) - JOY

Part 1: Why do you think that 26 processes is an "outrageous" amount? In
your opinion, how many processes should you have running, and on the
basis of what information do you believe this to be true?

No need to answer. As has been explained in these newsgroups so many
times it's not even funny, the raw number of processes running is
meaningless. What matters is what those processes are doing on your
system. A web search will provide information on each one.

It is entirely normal for several svchost entries to appear. Each is
hosting a different process. At this moment I have four of them. You can
easily find an explanation for what svchost does by searching the web
(or the newsgroups, where this question gets asked over and over.)

Part 2: There is no such universal list since adds-ons come from the
software you install and the options you choose when you setup the
software. There is no universal list of software applications.

May I suggest that before you start running around like Chicken Little
you should spend some time learning about the subjects you are asking
about. You'll find tons of information and you'll be less likely to ask
silly questions in a newsgroup. Although you'd be hard-pressed to ask
sillier questions than I did when I was starting out.
