Running Outlook Express 6

My Outlook Express 6 no longer works properly. It does not receive/send any
new messages.

I currently use Windows XP Home. My dealer tells me that the solution is to
reformat my computer and reload all the software. This is just
time-consuming. It was working fine until the last windows update. How do I
get it to work without reformatting my computer?
