XP does not have a DOS mode. You will need to create an MS-DOS boot
diskette and place the Firmware update onto a diskette. Only then, would
you have a DOS mode and be able to process the update.

Start / Run / CMD. This is not DOS mode (XP does not include a DOS mode),
but you will be able to issue DOS commands. When done, just enter EXIT from
the "DOS" prompt to return to your XP desktop.

But not low level enough to do the Flash on an in-built peripheral.

Get the Win98 with Ramdisk. Before, put your flash files and
applications on another floppy.

Bot with the Win98 disk.
Copy the flah files an applications from the other floppy to the ram
drive, and run the flash app from the ramdrive. (more or less
instructions for my systems main BIOS)

You have to boot some true DOS system; you cant 'reboot to DOS mode',
because XP does not have one.

You can make a floppy that will be adequate for what you need by My
Computer - r-click the drive, Format and check the box 'MSDOS Startup
disk'.

Then copy the flash program and data to it, restart to boot the floppy.

Always then start by using the 'backup current ' option,

Put a blank floppy in the drive and go to My Computer. Right click the
floppy drive & click format. Then select MS-DOS boot disk.
