I have written several GWBASIC programs and find that I can run GWBASIC.EXE
on my home computer and also my laptop. Now I am on holiday using a different
compute, I'm unsuccessfully trying to run it from a floppy. I've also copied
it to the hard disk of this computer. I've gone to the DOS command prompt,
changed directory and tried to run C:\BASIC\GWBASIC.EXE but get the response
"You cannot Shell to BASIC".

All 3 computers are running XP. Why am I getting this problem and is there
anything I can do about it?

You may want to start here: "Troubleshooting MS-DOS-Based Programs in
Windows" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=314106).

I too am running Windows xp (home)., try creating a folder on the H.D. Naming it [GW Basic] and copy the GW Basic.EXE file to it , create a shortcut to GWBasic.EXE Drag the shortcut to your desktop, it should open it in a window of its own.!!!.
You can Place your programs in the same folder and should be able to create a shortcut to them as well , they should open automatically . Good Luck
