running chkdsk causes hard drive to crash

G

Guest

Here's the deal-

I run chkdsk and when it is finally done the comp. reboots and after bios
loads it goes back to the chkdsk screen for a few secs, then a blue screen of
death for a micro second.

At this point the computer boots to the screen with options like "Start
windows normally" etc. None of these work and the comp keeps rebooting.

This has happened twice to me so if anyone out there has any insight I
would be
in your debt.

Next time the computer starts up, open Control Panel - System -
Advanced.
Click on the Settings button in the Startup and Recovery (bottom)
section.
In the Startup and Recovery window click on the checkbox for
"Automatically restart" to clear it then click on Apply and OK as
needed to exit.

That should put an end to the spontaneous reboots and should at least
allow you to read the full content of the BSOD. Post that information
back here, including any STOP code, the 4 parameters associated with
the STOP code, and any file or module names mentioned.

Good luck

(p class=MsoNormal)Can you boot successful to the desktop? The reason I ask is
you stated that this has happened twice now. I was wondering if this is a sporadic
issue, or you can no longer boot into your system altogether?(br)

Not a problem. :) What amazed me about it was the amount of garbage
it seemed to contain. I'll admit, my knowledge of HTML is limited to
what I learned making a few pages about 10 years ago, so it looked
like gsrbage to me. Maybe it has a purpose in today's web design, but
it was still a lot of stuff for a few simple lines of text.
