Running a batch file to FTP a file

I am trying to modify my macro to run a batch file that will FTP to a created
csv file to a mainframe. I have the file locations and all the other info
required, but i do not know how to add this step. I heard about a shell
function but do not understand how to use it. I was wondering if anybody
here might have some pointers. Thank you.

As far as I know Access doesn't recognises the ftp or http protocols, so
you have to download the database file to a local or LAN drive. These
