I am wondering if anyone knows:
a) what is causing this error to occur
b) what to do to stop it from recurring

The problem is this. When I startup the computer, as it loads the items in
the system tray I get an error message window that says:

Runner error (in the window title area)

Invalid BackWeb application id "137903" (in the window content area)

I have installed all windows XP updates and Service Pack 2 and the error
still persists.

Thanks in advance.

1 What kind of PC?
2 You can go into msconfig and on the Startup tab deselect the BackWeb
from the startup.

If you have a HP or Compact PC you may have antivirus, antispyware, or
firewall stopping the backweb from connecting

I am using a HP Pavilion a320n, XP Home edition. As far as the av,as and
firewall, Service Pack 2 installed security features (including firewall),
plus I installed McAfee VirusScan after SP2. The runner error problem was
existant before any of this, and I have never been able to figure out what
is causing it.

I tried using MSCONFIG as suggested. There is nothing in the Startup tab
list that even uses the word BackWeb ... ideas?

Thanks, Ricky, but I already installed SP2 and all updates. None of this
made a difference.

Try going to msconfig and uncheck updates from HP and see if it helps. I
have an a320n also and it should help.

hey colleen did you fix the backweb problem ? if not , email direct @
(e-mail address removed)

OK. I think I found the problem. The HP Digital Imaging Monitor is in the
system tray. I was checking settings when I found that the scanner part of
the hsc psc 1310 had no installed driver and wasn't communicating. I'm
installing the driver and will see if that's causing the problem.

If it doesn't go to start..run..type in msconfig..start up tab and uncheck
Updates for HP and that should stop the error.

My previous message was in error, though I did find the updater. In
Start->All Programs->Startup there was an item called Updates from HP. I
dragged the shortcut out of the startup sub-menu and left it on the desktop.
In addition to not getting the error upon restart, double-clicking the
shortcut on the desktop resulted in the error message, so I know that was
the problem. Thanks for all the help guys.

And now on to a new subject. I'll start a new thread with this one.
