runing programs in background

hi everyone i have a very slow computer it has a 750 HD and one full gig of
ram the problem is is that it is slow. when i use the ctrl, alt, delete
function it show 46 programs that are running how do i fix this problem i am
at a loss as to what to do it should not take forever to just open the
control panel plz help any replys to my email will be welcome ty

Could be you have way too many programs automatically starting when Windows
starts.

Go to Start > Run and type msconfig in the box. When the System
Configuration Utility starts click on the Startup tab. Go down the list and
uncheck and program you don't want to start when Windows starts.
