Several weeks ago, my computer got infected with a virus that affected the
rundll32 file in the Windows system32 folder. Unfortunately, when I ran my
virus program to clean it up, it deleted rundll32, and ever since I've been
having trouble running most programs. I don't have the Windows installation
disks anymore, but is there any other way to fix this?

Thanks

If a virus damaged system files, you need to repair the system. You can
try running the System File Checker and it *might* not ask for the XP
cd.

Start>Run>sfc /scannow [enter]

If it asks for the XP cd or this doesn't solve the problem, then you'll
have to get an XP cd. The next step would be to do a Repair Install and
you'll need the operating system to do this.

If you lost your XP cd or it is damaged and you have proof of purchase,
you can contact Microsoft to replace it. If this is an OEM machine,
contact the computer mftr.

800-426-9400 to replace a CD; 800-325-1233 if OEM dealer has gone out of
business and need to replace a CD.

If you have an OEM machine with the product key sticker on the computer,
a local professional computer repair shop might be willing to fix the
machine because the product key is your license to use Windows, not the
physical cd itself. I follow that policy in my own shop.
